The Villas on the 9th, Boracay Write-up

The Villas on the 9th at Fairways & Bluewater, namely, Villa Maria, Villa Margarita, Villa Sofia, and Villa Ysabel are first-class condotels that offer buyers complete ownership of their units, with a Certificate of Condominium Title (CCT). Each buyer is assured of the exclusive privilege to use his unit for a minimum total of 30 days or 4 weeks per year for 15 years, the period of the contract. Meanwhile, for the rest of the year, his unit is immediately leased back to the developer for the same period, and will be managed and operated as a hotel. This gives the owner a real income producing five-star property which can be enjoyed until the 15-year contract expires. This contract is also renewable for 15 years.

This valuable acquisition allows the owner to return again and again to his dream destination for a wonderful holiday each year, while also being assured of an income emanating from the same property. Inevitably, it's like a 15-year vacation spree that allows the unit owner's money to grow, and income to come in without him lifting a finger!

On top of that, he also gets the chance to access and play golf* in Boracay's only golf course, with its immaculate fairways and captivating views. Of course, Boracay's pristine beauty is a treasure in itself.

Undoubtedly, much like The Galleons of old, The Villas on the 9th at Fairways and Bluewater spell value, luxury, and comfort, all in one breathtaking destination - Treasures in paradise.

Treasures Over and By the Ocean

Named after the high and mighty and treasure-laden Spanish Galleons that sailed the Pacific some 400 years ago, The Villas on the 9th at Fairways and Bluewater are likewise value-filled development so structured and styled for these modern times. Side by side comparison, the Galleons and The Villas are two very different structures, in size, appearance, and function - while one was almost always constantly on the move as it sailed over the ocean hundreds of years ago, the other is permanently 'anchored' to its home by the ocean. The similarity lies in both being vessels of treasure, though in different forms.

The Spanish Galleons or the Manila Galleons, as they were later known, sailed the Pacific Ocean for 250 years - from 1565 until 1815 - in that lucrative Manila Galleon Trade. Departing from Manila bound for Acapulco in New Spain (now Mexico), the Galleons were laden with the riches of the Orient - spices transshipped from the Spice Islands to the south, and porcelain, ivory, lacquerware, and processed silkcloth from China and Southeast Asia - to be sold in European markets.

Aside from the difficult journey, plagued by storms and bad weather and sickness among the crew, the Galleons were constantly in danger from English and Dutch raiders. The riches each Galleon carried on every trip to Acapulco attracted raiders intent on plundering Spanish ships and settlement. For one, English sea captain Thomas Cavendish looted and burned the Santa Ana off the tip of the Baja peninsula in 1587. Another English captain George Compton pursued the Galleon San Sebastian in 1754. The Galleon's crew purposely ran the ship aground on Catalina Island to escape the raider. Compton captured and killed the surviving crew.

The Manila- Acapulco Galleon Trade ended when Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821.

Below are some of the better known Galleons which sailed in the Trade, and for which some of our Villas are named.

Villa Ysabel and Villa Sofia

Nuestra Señora de Ysabel and Nuestra Señora de Sofia - In June 1746, both were laden with valuable cargoes and allowed to embark for Mexico. The businessmen themselves had to share the burden of supplying the provisions of the ships. Good luck accompanied the Galleons, both reached Acapulco undetected by the English and relatively intact. Also, they were able to return from there safely.

Villa Margarita

Santa Margarita - The Santa Margarita, which sailed in the year 1600, lost her masts in a storm, and drifted to the island of Ladrones. She was driven ashore in February 1601, without being able to save herself. 210 perished, 50 survived. The consort of the Santa Margarita after 9 months made her way back to the Philippines and was shipwrecked on the Catanduanes, only 8 persons survived.

Villa Maria

Santa Maria de los Valles - The Santa Maria left Manila in 1668 with 778 people and a very valuable cargo. After much hardship, she arrived at Acapulco two days before Christmas and dropped anchor. Two hours later, she caught fire and sank within an hour, taking with her all the treasure valued at over 3 million pesos and more than 330 people. The Santa Maria is to date one of the the Trade's undiscovered wrecks.
